I am very pleased to see that Parents in Partnership are co-ordinating a response to this proposal which is drastic, short-sighted, unfair and illogical.
I am completely opposed to the closures, as currently proposed, and am also concerned about the impact such measures would have on neighbouring schools.
I have a child in 1st year at Broughton High School where a new school is about to be built. The disruption of both the adjacent construction works and the settling in of an additional 500 pupils from Drummond High is likely to lead to significant problems for staff and pupils.
I am also disappointed by the terms of the letter I received yesterday from the Council, via Broughton High. It seems the Council have learned little about effective consultation and continue the tactic of offering two options (both of which involve the admission of pupils from Drummond), but no option to maintain the status quo. The Council are clearly adopting their usual tactic of “divide and rule” and so I completely support the efforts of Parents to Partnership and hope that a united response can be submitted to the Council on the matter.
